    • Customer frustrations with multiple subcontractor coordination
      • Our customers have expressed the need for a qualified vendor to provide mechanical door services, keying services and advanced electromechanical locking solutions
    • Our own frustration coordinating with General Contractors and Subcontractors
      • The results are often finger pointing between parties, project or repair delays, financial impact to end users

Code Compliance Education

Fire Door Inspection are required in the Latest National Fire Protection Association Standards (NFPA 80) and are critical to responsible Life Safety Plan. The inspections include the following:

  • Typically performed on Stairwell Doors and Fire Barriers
  • Door-to-Frame clearances are within proper tolerance
  • Door Hardware positively latches
  • Doors operate and swing freely without obstruction
  • Fire Door assembly complies with the proper UL Listing as noted on the Label
  • That the Label is clearly visible (not painted over etc.)
  • Confirm the Structural Integrity of the door

IST has Trained and Certified Fire Door Inspectors on staff

Magnetic Locks (Maglocks) are sometimes the only solution for locking a door. They present several installation challenges and require special Permits to be issued, and additional inspections to be scheduled and paid for.

NFPA 101 Life Safety code regulates the installation and configuration of Access Control doors in the path of egress. Maglock must meet the following to be compliant:

  • Must unlock if the Fire Alarm activate so it must be tied into the building Fire Alarm System. This involves the Fire Alarm installation company.
  • Must unlock as a person approaches the door via a Request-to-Exit that directly interrupts the power to the lock. The door must also unlock if the REX loses power.
  • Must unlock via a manual release device (Push-to-Exit button) that directly interrupts the power to the lock independent of any other system
  • Must unlock if power is lost to the power supply the controls the lock
